Director of Account Services

Captains of Industry, an award winning strategic marketing firm, has an immediate opening for a Director of Account Services with the talent, drive and skills required to lead our growing Account Services department.

As Director of Account Services, you will play the leading role in establishing & developing high-level relationships with our clients, including a top wind energy company. You will create, identify, secure and deliver complex marketing solutions that encompass the full spectrum of our service offerings from research, corporate positioning, design and messaging across a wide range of media solutions. You are a true professional who excels at identifying opportunities where the agency can make an impact, and then selling those solutions through to the account’s stakeholders.

The key areas of your role will be relationship management, project direction, business development and people management.

Our ideal candidate has a solid background in senior-level marketing agency positions. Advanced verbal and written communications skills, analytical thinking, personal organization and interpersonal dynamics are mandatory. The Director of Account Services must be an excellent personnel manager, with superior team-building skills and mentoring abilities. An expert understanding of today’s marketing and advertising business challenges and a keen sense of entrepreneurship are essential.

As part of the senior management group, you will contribute to the wider strategic direction of the business, actively contributing to our culture. This role reports in directly to the agency principals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overall responsibility for the management of the Account Services team.
  • Evaluating Account Service staff performance on a regular basis, guiding staff in career and skills development, establishing goals and holding frequent skill assessments of the entire team.
  • Developing people within the team by coaching, identifying areas for growth and training opportunities, celebrating successes and keeping an open dialogue with the entire team.
  • Monitoring and nurturing the commercial acumen of the team to minimize costs and maximize income on all accounts.
  • Working to deepen the nature of client relationships from simple transactional support to true strategic partnership with emphasis on the agency’s range of marketing and advertising solutions.
  • Maintaining a strategic overview of the client organization, its competitive challenges and issues.
  • Understanding and communicating to the Captains of Industry team the overall client vision and the vision for all marketing programs for the client's business.
  • Working to build a network of contacts across client organizations to position Captains of Industry as top-of-mind for the full spectrum of our services.
  • Providing clients with clear access to senior management.
  • Managing the structured performance review process to monitor and evaluate levels of client satisfaction, implementing all interventions as necessary.
  • Supported by the Captains team, deliver outstanding marketing and advertising solutions that exceed client expectations.
  • Reviewing competitive costing proposals for client assignments prepared by the Account team that represent best value for the client and deliver to budgeted financial criteria.
  • Negotiating with client representatives, including marketing & finance, to agree on and execute mutually acceptable terms of business.
  • Monitoring the ongoing profitability of accounts while meeting client needs.
  • Reviewing all major media plans, public relation plans, and creative strategies before submission to clients.
  • Proactively identifying opportunities where the Captains of Industry portfolio of services may add value and create a need for these services.
  • Working closely with agency principals to help win new business, and playing a lead role in helping build existing accounts.
  • Developing written, costed proposals in a persuasive, professional manner to convert opportunities into live projects/clients.
  • Preparing and delivering formal presentations to key decision-makers as part of a structured 'pitch' process.

Requirements:

  • At least 10 years leading clients in a senior Account Services role.
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience in developing complex marketing communication plans for a range of clients.
  • Extensive experience in all types of media including print, web, interactive, direct mail, collateral, video, radio, outdoor and more.
  • Strong organizational, relationship management and leadership skills with clients, colleagues and third-party resources (vendors, consumers, primary research sources, etc.)
  • Confidence to challenge clients and colleagues in a positive, constructive manner.
  • Must possess superb presentation and writing skills – confident, articulate, literate and concise.
  • Strong analytic and strategic skills.
  • Must possess a positive outlook and a collaborative work ethic.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
