Communications Manager

About the Organization:
Boston Partners in Education enhances the academic achievement and nurtures the growth of Boston public school students by providing them with focused, individualized in-school volunteer support. Boston Partners in Education is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization.

Position Overview
Boston Partners in Education is currently seeking a creative, results-oriented Communications Manager to oversee the communication and dissemination of the organization’s vision and mission to all internal and external audiences. He/she will develop and implement the organization’s overall marketing and communications strategy to ensure that the business plan, culture, strategies and image are represented appropriately through all levels of communications. This will translate into support for the organization’s communications objective to drive all tasks with the purpose of increasing donor contributions and volunteer recruitment, developing and maintaining a positive consistent brand, increasing messaging and community awareness regarding our mission.

He/she will also be a central part of the event management team with particular focus on the organization’s annual 400+ person spring gala. This annual dinner and auction raises funds to support the organization’s academic mentoring programs.  Other events throughout the year are designed to expand the organization’s reach to volunteers and donors.

Duties and Responsibilities
COMMUNICATIONS
Branding

  • Work with Executive Director to develop, maintain and monitor a strong, consistent brand
  • Implement brand strategy initiatives and communicate these initiatives to key stakeholders and staff

Marketing

  • Development, writing, editing, printing, and distribution of a variety of marketing materials including, but not limited to: annual report, quarterly newsletter, marketing brochures and mailers, e-mail marketing, and other promotional strategies
  • Manage organization’s annual appeal direct mail campaigns and other mail correspondence as needed
  • Manage all collateral, invitations, signage and branding related to annual gala.
  • Works with Executive Director preparing messaging for gala
  • Manage video production

Web

  • Update and maintain website content and design and work with external web host to manage www.bostonpartners.org, including the use of images, color and photography
  • Along with the Grants Manager, supervise AmeriCorps VISTA/Website and Database Manager
  • Design and implement online communications to recruit and cultivate donors and volunteers
  • Maintain Face Book page for organization

Public Relations

  • Create and execute ongoing public relations initiatives: work with staff to develop feature/human interest stories and press releases while cultivating relationships with local media and securing press coverage of programs, events, etc.
  • Represent organization at events as requested

Advertising

  • Produce advertisements and implement annual pro bono advertising campaign

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS required, MA preferred
  • 3-5 years experience in communications, public relations, marketing promotions
  • Excellent communication skills, both in verbal and written forms.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Computer Skills, with knowledge of Microsoft Office. Front Page/Dreamweaver, PhotoShop, and Illustrator experience preferred. HTML & basic web development skills a plus
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously, self starter

Compensation: Commensurate with experience
