    What’s this course about?

The industry has radically changed in the last five years. But what hasn’t changed is the need to create the next big idea.

This 8-week course invites you to imagine what’s next in the value exchange between people and brands. Whether you’re a current Creative who wants to build your portfolio or someone who’s thinking about becoming a Creative, this course will give you the opportunity to explore avenues of thought, technique, and execution to develop great ideas that belong in a portfolio.

Passionate and seasoned professionals will coach, critique, and collaborate with you as you explore ideas across different media with a singular purpose. You will have the chance to share your work as you develop your ideas for class assignments and your personal portfolio.

Classes meet once a week in the evening for two hours over a period of eight weeks. Here are a few of the topics we’ll cover:

    •   Understanding creative strategy and concepting
    •   The Big Idea
    •   Thinking inside the box, thinking outside the box
    •   Making work that works
    •   Selling and presenting yourself and your ideas
Addressing your clients’ real business problems and goals

Guest speakers will be invited to share their wisdom.

Who will be teaching the course?

    Greg Almeida, Executive Creative Director:

As a copywriter by trade, Greg has spent the majority of his adult life working at numerous agencies, both big and small. Prior to joining MMB, Greg was most recently an SVP, Creative Director at Arnold Worldwide, where he ran the Jack Daniel’s, New Balance and the Boston Bruins accounts. Over the years he as also created award-winning work for Truth, Volvo, Hershey’s, Staples, Fidelity, Jet Blue, Zappos and more.

Greg's work has been recognized by the industry's most prestigious creative shows, including Cannes, The One Show, the Emmys, Communication Arts, D&AD, ANDY, Clio, the ADC, Webby's, Graphis, Archive, FWA and TBS’ now-defunct "TV's Funniest Commercials of the Year."

Greg graduated with a BA from Boston College and a Masters Degree from Emerson College. He also has a love of comedy, a healthy sports obsession and a rather impressive Fantasy Baseball resume.

    Travis Robertson, Executive Creative Director:

Travis is an Art Director and designer by trade, with an odd and adventurous backstory. Prior to advertising, he had a variety of strange occupations: working as a child actor, vintage Vespa mechanic, cable guy, professional muay thai fighter, filmmaker, bartender and chef. He has a BA in Film Production from Emerson College, with graduate studies in Art Direction and Design from Portfolio Center.

He has worked at a slew of shops in both Atlanta and Boston, most recently as an SVP Creative Director at Arnold, where he ran accounts like Jack Daniel's, New Balance and The Boston Bruins. He has also created award-winning work for brands like Volvo, Unicef, Truth, Carnival, Southern Comfort, Burton, Guinness, Coca-Cola and others.

His work has been honored by Cannes, The One Show, Clios, Emmys, FWA, D&AD, Type Directors Club, ADC, Andy's, Webby's, Communication Arts, Graphis, Archive and is on exhibit in the permanent collection of the Cooper-Hewitt Museum of Art and Design.

As we approach the 21st Anniversary of the Rosoff Awards, one thing has become crystal clear to us: The definition of diversity has changed forever.

Gone are the days of diversity being a mandate. Today’s diversity is cognitive. Smart, creative companies and their leaders see inclusion as an innovation tool. It’s a way to spark ideas, imagination and collaboration.

Millennials are demanding authenticity from the top down. The issue is no longer black and white. Real diversity is not defined by race or gender. Rather it is a vibrant mix of identities, ideas, ages, cultures and experiences.

This year, we will be honoring the visionaries. They’re the leaders who are willing to shake things up, and the organizations that embrace diversity not as a mandate, but as a movement.

Join us on Tuesday, May 23rd at our Rosoff Awards dinner at The State Room and stand together with these leaders and visionaries in diversity.

    Course Description:
This course is designed for entry-level account people at external and in-house agencies. The assumption underlying the course is that account people must be a key part of the strategic and creative process and that effective account folks who have a point of view drive agency excellence.

Specifically, we explore how account management is practiced in small to mid-size, creatively-driven agencies versus large, more traditionally structured organizations and in-house agencies. By exposing entry-level account people to very different philosophies, the goal is to offer a choice they might not know they had and gain a more diverse perspective of the account management discipline.

After this course, account people should be able to think and write strategically, form a defensible point of view, and be resourceful. Through active participation and discussion, practical application of theory, and exposure to real world challenges, account people will be prepared to bring even more value to their organization.

    Developing Digital Marketing Strategies

    DATE: July 25, 2017
    TIME:  1:00 - 5:00 pm
INSTRUCTOR:  Steph Parker, Supervisor at Socialyse, part of Havas Group
    PRICE: $450 member / $525 non-member
LOCATION: Havas Media, 10 Summer Street, Boston

     ABOUT THIS COURSE:

In today’s dynamic digital marketplace, it’s not enough to build a strategy that only aligns a digital marketing channel with a business goal. Consumers — users of the digital technology we leverage for our campaigns — are savvier than ever, desiring information and experiences on-demand. And, they’re empowering the choices for where they spend their time, effort, and money with research. They are growing increasingly skeptical of any branded content that may secretly try to sell them something.

In this course, we’ll explore a high-level overview of the strategic process, diving deeper into how the intersection of consumers and technology has created a shift in what target audiences now want, need, and expect. We’ll also review the basics of user behavior and psychology as they pertain to the consumer journey, identifying marketing opportunities that create positive user experiences.

After this course, you will be able to:

    • Understand how to begin building a digital marketing strategy
    • Identify the reasons behind changes in user behavior along the consumer journey
    • Brainstorm marketing tactics that create positive user experiences
    • Articulate consumer attitudes and use-cases for each main digital marketing channel

Pre-requisites: Basic familiarity with email, SEO/SEM, blogs, influencer marketing, social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.), messaging apps (Snapchat, WhatsApp, Messenger), display, and native advertising. We will not be reviewing a 101 of these platforms in this course; we will be exploring their strategic applications and roles within digital marketing campaigns.

For any questions please contact Molly Sullivan at molly@adclub.org.
