Campaign will attempt to raise $1 million for life-saving clinical trial
BOSTON – December 12, 2012 – Boston-based advertising agency Connelly Partners is taking on the rare genetic disease FOP one virtual flower at a time. FOP is an extremely rare and debilitating medical condition where bone forms in muscles and other soft tissues of the body. During a flare-up (characterized by large swellings), extra bone can form across the joints, restricting movement. The disease affects approximately 1 in 2 million people worldwide.
Connelly Partners’ collective hearts broke when learning about two year old Sienna Otto’s struggle with FOP, a condition that prevents her from simple movements like bending over to plant the flowers she loves so much. From that heartbreak, as well as determination to fund effective, life-saving treatment for FOP patients, Sienna’s Flower Garden was born. Partnering with The Sienna Foundation, an organization created by Sienna’s family to raise funds and awareness, Connelly Partners also created videos introducing Sienna, the effects of FOP, and most-importantly, the hope that effective treatment could be imminent if $1 million is raised to support clinical trials. Supporters can plant flowers for as little as $5 each and are encouraged to share Sienna’s Flower Garden with friends, family, and social networks to ultimately raise the $1 million required.
“Flowers are not just beautiful, they are also messages. ‘I love you.’ ‘I'm sorry.’ ‘Congratulations.’ We are inviting people to use a flower to say hello to Sienna, and bid adieu to FOP,” said Steve Connelly, president of Connelly Partners. “As the garden grows so does our collective hope of defeating this disease, one flower at a time.”
