    Connelly Partners Helps Miss America Balloting

    "Get ready for the swimsuit competition!"

    That's one message from Connelly Partners, the Boston advertising agency that's been hired to help develop the all-important voting Web page for the "2009 Miss America Countdown to the Crown," which culminates this weekend in Las Vegas. In the precision of the action verb, actor Mario Lopez (right) will emcee the extravaganza, which airs on the TLC cable channel.

    In a press release, Connelly Partners said: "This year, the TLC channel reinvented the American tradition into a four-week (airs once a week) reality series called 'Countdown to the Crown.' This is also the first time the public chooses the Miss America winner. Each week the contestants from the 52 (sic) states live together on the Queen Mary luxury ocean liner and face a series of team and individual competitions to help them prepare for the pageant - and prove they have what it takes to be the next Miss America. The 'top 15' will be chosen and given golden sashes Friday night and those selected will move onto the finals where Miss America will be announced live on TLC from Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas Jan. 24."

    Connelly Partners said that it was asked by Discovery, TLC's parent company, to "bring their Web concepts to life by building, testing, and deploying the online voting mechanism."

    Here's hoping that Alicia Zitka, the Massachusetts entrant in the competition, wins a golden sash and does the Bay State proud.
