Brian Tierney Joins Mullen as SVP, Creative Director

Lead creative on Garmin's holiday and Super Bowl commercials and copywriter behind Burger King’s racy "Fantasy Ranch" spot joins Mullen ECD Mark Wenneker’s new-look team

BOSTON, Mass., August 19, 2010 - Brian Tierney, the writer and lead creative director on Garmin’s Super Bowl and Give a Garmin holiday campaigns, has joined Mullen in the role of svp, creative director. Tierney, whose other notable work includes the launch of BMW’s MINI Cooper and Burger King’s “Fantasy Ranch” TV spot, is the latest new hire in Mullen executive creative director Mark Wenneker’s new-look creative department, as he continues to attract top talent from highly regarded creative agencies nationwide. In addition to Garmin, which he worked on at both Fallon and at his own eponymous agency, Tierney’s additional brand experience includes Harley-Davidson, Porsche, Apple, Target, Budweiser, Pepsi and Citibank. His agency credits, beyond Fallon, include full-time stints at Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Carmichael Lynch and Martin|Williams.

“It's a sad day for the entire freelance community,” said Wenneker. “But, an incredible day for Mullen. Brian's got a big heart, a wicked sense of humor and an incredible body. Of work, I mean.”

“Mullen isn’t just another agency with their sights set on being great,” said Tierney. “They’re proving it with the hires they’re making, the business they’re winning, and there are more surprises to come. Plus, this gives me daily face time with two of my favorite crustaceans — the Atlantic lobster and Mark Wenneker.”

Tierney’s advertising honors include Best of Show at The One Show and the MPA Grand Kelly for MINI Cooper. He was also part of the team that won a Cyber Grand Prix for Method at the Cannes Advertising Festival. His work for Burger King and Garmin was included in recent AICP shows.

Tierney comes to Mullen at a time when the agency is on a winning streak, having recently captured new business from JetBlue, Zappos and Olympus, among others. He is the latest addition to a creative group that was bolstered earlier this year by the arrival of group creative directors Dave Weist and Tim Vaccarino, the pair responsible for some of the most iconic recent advertising from Volkswagen, Cadillac, Hummer and Palm.

Wenneker joined Mullen in 2008 from Goodby Silverstein and has been instrumental in winning the Zappos and JetBlue creative assignments, as well as drawing top-tier creative talent to the agency.
