BOSTON, MA May 22, 2009 – Connelly Partners, one of the fastest growing independent advertising agencies in the Northeast located in Boston’s South End, announced today the winner of it’s student interpretation art work competition that challenged the students from Massachusetts College of Art & Design, The Art Institute of Boston and Endicott College’s School of Art & Design to create a conceptual design that would visually articulate a singular idea defined by the agency. Annie Willcox of Endicott College received a $1,000 cash award, a paid internship at Connelly Partners and real life agency experience. “In an unstable economic climate where there are very limited opportunities for art students who wish to enter the world of advertising, we felt the need to reach out to fresh, innovative and untapped minds in our very own backyard. We wanted to provided a relevant and unique experience to future industry leaders that they can add to their resume,” said Alyssa Toro, Senior Partner and Creative Director at Connelly Partners. "This is a great opportunity for our students to compete in the marketplace of ideas, where attention is the new currency. Thanks to Connelly Partners this excellent experience not only leads to a coveted internship with a thought leader in the field, but rewards everyone by celebrating ideas and creativity of our next generation of designers and artists,” said Nathan Felde, Design Department Chairman of Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University. Students were asked to create a conceptual design using a poster, "album" cover and/or digital component that would visually articulate a singular concept defined by the agency. The students were asked to submit one visual concept in an interesting and provocative way. Each student worked off the same platform. Each school was invited to the agency for a creative briefing. They were given an introduction to the concept with pertinent background information. The meeting mirrored the true experience of a creative brief including strategy, research, etc., providing an opportunity to learn about real-life agency process. Students were also invited back for a one-day shadow at the agency where they bounced ideas off employees, used the office space and truly felt a day-in-the-life of an agency. Students were allowed to use the agency’s feedback to craft the final version of their project.
