    Pairing to enhance digital engagement platforms and expand game lab capabilities


    BOSTON – October 16, 2013 – Connelly Partners and Pod Design today announced a merger agreement that pairs Boston’s leading integrated marketing firm with the award-winning developer of multi-platform branded entertainment, games, and applications.  The entity will be known as Pod/CP Branded Entertainment, a division of Connelly Partners, and will also include a dedicated game lab.


    “I have been relentlessly pursuing Pod Design and my friend Steve Curran for along time, and I’m elated that we’re all now part of the same family,” said Steve Connelly, president of Connelly Partners.  “This gives us even more digital and development depth than we had before.  But the big win is our ability to provide clients with best-in-class digital engagement experiences.”


    Pod Design has long been considered one of the most innovative players in creating digital experiences.  The company has produced award-winning branded content, games, and integrated campaigns forcompanies such as Red Bull Records, History Channel, Warner Brothers, PUMA, Sony Entertainment, GSN, Yahoo! and many others. 


    Founded in 2003, Pod gained early acclaim in the area of viral marketing. Three years in row Marketing Sherpa selected a Pod viral campaign as one of the top ten cases studies of the year in their annual Hall Of Fame.  In 2012, Pod earned Gold honors at the Hatch Awards in both the Integrated and Games categories, and won Best Game at the MITX Awards for the fifth year in-a-row, for their work with Red Bull Records, and the band Awolnation.

    A key development in the pairing will be investing in and expanding Pod’s game lab, which will focus on “transmedia” platforms.  “Transmedia” is a term that is increasingly used by product designers, brand marketers, and entertainment companies when envisioning the future of the relationship between product and consumers and storytelling across multipleplatforms.


    “Technologies such as image recognition, motion tracking, NFC, augmented reality, offer exciting ways to establish connections between physical and digital experiences,” added Curran.  “Our focus will be to create experiences that benefit from how these technologies willhelp tell a story, create deeper engagement, and extend those touchpoints.”


    Connelly Partners’ merger with Pod is just the latest in a year of exponential growth for the 14-year-old agency.  Other highlights include August’s merger with travel and hospitality marketing powerhouse ISM, resulting in the launch of ISM/CP Travel & Lifestyle Group.  The agency also added Director level hires for growing departments in Public Relations, Social Media and Integrated Production, making Connelly Partners a fully integrated marketing team.  The company’s employee count has almost doubled in 2013, from 60 to 110.
